Norwegian biometrics firm IDEX has won a contact with a Chinese smartphone maker for its Cardinal fingerprint sensor. The handset is expected to be in mass production in H1 2017.”I'm very pleased that IDEX has secured a key design win in China. The customer is a Chinese vendor with a significant volume of handset shipments. This design win is a result of our move to a direct sales model with a strong drive into the China market and the momentum from our previous mobile design wins,” says Yang Chiah Yee, SVP Worldwide sales. The news follows an earlier design win in July, when IDEX announced that a tier-one smartphone customer had selected IDEX's Cardinal touch fingerprint sensor for integration into a mobile handset. In a statement, the firm said the design win further validates the price-performance value proposition that the Company's fingerprint sensor products and technology bring to the mobile market. “Following IDEX's announcement on 2 June 2016 of a design win where the IDEX Cardinal sensor was selected as a feature in a tier-one OEM smartphone market launch, we are very pleased to secure a second important design win with a leading mobile customer. This design win along with IDEX's shift towards a more direct sales approach is contributing to a growing and exciting pipeline of customer opportunities,” says Dr Hemant Mardia, CEO of IDEX at the time. “Our sensors are competitive on both price and performance for compact form factors, and we expect to secure additional design wins across our family of sensors in the coming quarters.”
