Arlington-based Ideal Innovations Inc (I3) has announced the arrival of a new face recognition app that runs entirely on a user's smartphone. Called Next Generation Tactical Identification technology, the app takes a photo and shows matching faces with relevant records in a few seconds with no requirement for network communications or a back-end server. The firm noted in a statement that the app “puts the power of identification into the hands of the tactical end user”. When connected to a network, the new technology synchronizes databases and can be configured to share information immediately, enabling fast support including match verification by expert face examiners. The new patent-pending technology is not limited to mobile devices, but it is works entirely on a smart phone with databases that include millions of images.Next Generation Tactical Identification technology also provides the ability to immediately search 4 million records on a mobile device or hundreds of millions on a single laptop. On a server, I3 says it can search a billion images in seconds, with matching speeds in excess of 25 million comparisons per CPU core, per second. The system incorporates a facial recognition algorithm that enables large databases to be searched on mobile platforms” with incredibly fast search times and exceptional facial recognition accuracy for constrained and unconstrained face images”, notes I3.
