The International Centre for Migration Policy Development, which supports government migration management policies, has been a critical agency on Ukraine’s side in the context of war. With their regular presence at our Identity Week Europe event, taking place every June, we invited ICMPD’s Senior Project Manager responsible for the implementation of the Ukrainian project onto IdentityWeek.net. This has carved out the resilience of border management agencies in solidarity of Ukraine amid the war with Russia.
The project was born in late 2022, and since then they have built large capacity through investment in technology equipment and personnel, including delivering training for trainers and border guard officers.

The EU4IBM‑Resilience project is delivering specialised Training of Trainers for x-ray border scanner operations in Lviv. In addition to taking a people-centred approach to combating a lot of issues such as document fraud, human trafficking, and facilitating border management and asylum during a war, the project, funded by the European Union, has deployed self-service scanners, biometric recognition, stationary scanners, trained 80 customs officers and equipped them with high process technologies. They expect to adopt more AI based technologies in their endeavours.
