The Communications Workers Union, which represents employees in tech and banking industries, has said it is recovering from a crippling cyber attack which compromised data from its IT system. The unknown hackers targeted two similar attacks against trade unions in March and it is not known whether personal data has been breached.

Some information about union members was among datasets, CWU admitted after the breach, which would have certainly been the target to steal in a phishing attack.

The union has one of the largest memberships with over 185,000 employees in tech, banking and telecoms industries that would be familiar with security practices to prevent cyber breaches.

Aslef, the UK trade union for train drivers, also suffered a malware attempt by bad actors within a close period and reported to have been vandalised on their website.

Cyber security experts have been employed to assess the incidents and restore the unions’ IT infrastructure. T
