A court in the Netherlands has ruled that authorities can refuse a passport to people who won't give their fingerprints. The highest Dutch administrative court decided that while ID cards can be issued without the biometric, passports cannot.Under a European Regulation, an ePassport may be issued only if the applicant provides a facial image and two fingerprints are recorded on the chip. The court was responding to seven cases raised by objectors – four passport applications and three for ID cards.Although Dutch law require fingerprints on ID cards, this is not the case in European law, the council said.
