Croatian tech start-up Identity Consortium is spearheading the development of a digital platform for an ID wallet in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The platform, which is part of the ‘EU4DigitalSME’ project, is set to be available to citizens by mid-2025, according to an announcement from the start-up.
Supported by the European Union Delegation and the German Government, the project aims to modernise identification processes through a digital ID wallet, enabling secure electronic identification, authentication, and document signing. The initiative is managed by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange (IDDEEA) in collaboration with GIZ.
Identity Consortium is partnering with Adverta Pro d.o.o. to create the backend system and mobile application under the brand Identyum. This platform will allow Bosnian citizens to use their digital identity for various public and private services, ensuring compliance with European regulations and facilitating integration into the EU digital ecosystem.
Almir Badnjević, Director of IDDEEA BiH, highlighted the significance of this project for Bosnia’s digital transformation and EU accession. “Developing a digital ID wallet is a crucial step towards modernizing our services and improving interactions between citizens and state institutions,” he said.
Robert Ilijaš, CEO of Identyum, emphasised that this solution will provide Bosnia and Herzegovina with the necessary infrastructure for digital transformation, including remote and legally compliant electronic identification and authentication.
“This collaboration ensures Bosnia and Herzegovina can leapfrog development stages and join advanced EU countries in implementing national ID wallets,” Ilijaš added.
Adverta Pro CEO Emir Glogić noted the project’s importance for accelerating Bosnia’s EU integration, enhancing security, and improving citizen services through cutting-edge digital identity management.
This initiative marks a significant step in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s digitalisation efforts, promising enhanced efficiency, security, and access to new opportunities for its citizens.
