The time it takes to request securely-held data from travel authorities is sparking a new data collaboration within the transport sector.

The protection of data we all have to submit to be permitted to travel can be a barrier for common data-sharing with citizens, transport companies and decision-makers in society.

A pilot project arranged by entities in the travel alliance  will strengthen data.norge.no as a gateway to access public data and facilitate applications. The initiative is financed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and will aim to mitigate the complexities of agencies leveraging different solutions for applications internally.

Tine Kleivane, a tech lead in Datasamarbeidet said, “we do not develop solutions ourselves, but work together with Digdir with the goal of further developing the national joint solutions. Thus, this work will be able to benefit even more people”.

The collaboration wants to create a well-oiled automated system for data exchange with the help of national infrastructure. data.norge.no is one of the joint solutions Digdir operates and manages, whilst data access and migration will be facilitated by Maskinporten and Anansporten in combination with cloud providers. Covering several needs across the public sector, a national application solution would minimise pain-points for facilitating access to data such as the processing time of applications, lack of transparency, and technical and legal support.

“In this way, it will be easier for data consumers to find the data they are looking for and submit an application for access. To the benefit of both the public sector and the rest of the business community,” says Kleivane.
