Senior staff from California's First Tech Federal Credit Union have revealed that the firm is looking forward to a biometric pilot with MasterCard.The $7.3 billion credit union is partnering with the global payments giant on a multi-modal project that use a combination of facial and voice recognition and fingerprint matching to authenticate transactions.”We are extremely pleased that MasterCard has chosen to partner with First Tech to pilot new payment methods. Biometrics may seem very James Bond- like but the reality is fraudsters are very clever and resourceful,” Terry Rodrick, vice president of cards and payments at First Tech, told Credit Union Times.MasterCard is already the payment solutions provider for First Tech Federal Credit Union's 380,000 members. The union serves tech-oriented companies and their employees, including HP, Microsoft, Agilent, Intel, CISCO, Amazon, Nike, CH2M Hill, Intuit and Google.”This initial test has the potential to deliver greater security to US cardholders without compromising the ease and convenience Americans have come to expect today when using their credit and debit cards”, said MasterCard on the plan.
