Romanian qualified trust services provider certSIGN has announced a strategic partnership with German digital identity specialist Lissi to support adoption of the European Digital Identity Wallet in Romania.

The collaboration combines certSIGN’s expertise in PKI-based trust services, electronic signatures and digital identity solutions with Lissi’s EUDI Wallet Connector API. Together, the companies aim to help organisations move more quickly from regulatory requirements under eIDAS 2.0 to production-ready EUDI Wallet deployments.

Under the partnership, Romanian organisations will be able to access eIDAS-compliant API software for EUDI Wallet use cases through certSIGN. The joint offering is designed to enable wallet-based identification, credential verification, strong customer authentication and qualified electronic signatures with minimal changes to existing IT systems.

The companies say the setup allows fast integration of EUDI Wallet functionality into current digital journeys, reducing technical complexity and integration overhead for regulated industries, large enterprises and public sector bodies.

certSIGN and Lissi have already tested and showcased practical applications of the EUDI Wallet, including:

  • Full Know Your Customer (KYC) processes for banking

  • Digital identity use in loan applications

  • Qualified electronic signatures for legally binding transactions such as credit approvals

Demonstrations were conducted using a sandbox environment hosted within certSIGN’s infrastructure. The sandbox, which includes a reference wallet and an operational trust framework, is available for third parties to test EUDI Wallet integrations and supports the creation of qualified electronic signatures.

certSIGN described the implementation process as “easy and smooth,” highlighting the potential for faster adoption among Romanian organisations supported by a local QTSP and integrated technology components.

The partnership also focuses on preparing clients for eIDAS 2.0 and the rollout of the Romanian Digital Wallet, with an emphasis on expanding electronic identification and trust services aligned with European regulations.

Both companies said they are building a technical foundation to ensure interoperability with other European wallets, supporting cross-border digital identity verification across the EU.

The partnership reflects a shared goal of accelerating the EUDI Wallet’s go-to-market strategy in Romania and advancing trusted digital identity services nationwide.
