The Canadian province of Manitoba has revealed new identity cards which combine a citizen's driving licence, photo ID, health card and travel ID.The new ID card, which can also be linked to a mobile app, will be available the autumn of 2017, said officials on Monday. The "all-in-one" card will replace the driver's licences issued by Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) and paper registration cards issued by Manitoba Health, reported CBC.Manitobans expressed strong support for an all-in-one card during a five-week consultation period in August, adds the newspaper. The free cards will be made of plastic and will have the cardholder's photo and driver's licence information printed on the front, and have that individual's Personal Health Identification Number (PHIN) on the back. While the citizen's health details can also be stored on a mobile app, for now the driving licence will not.The integrated cards are about "convenience, easy access to services, security, and ensuring that private and confidential information stays private and confidential," said Ward Keith, MPI's vice-president of business development and communications and chief product officer.
