After a gentle launch in November, Brunei has unveiled a personal digital identity fit for individuals accessing public services via a single login with biometric authentication. BruneiID’s development reflects strengthened digital governance and a desire to provide a reliable digital credential that protects personal data in line with government security standards.
At the point of implementation, BruneiID will support identity verification based on identity card information to access certain government digital services, including the Public Service Commission Recruitment, BruHealth, TransportBN and Business Reporting portal.
The digital ID underwent a trial phase collecting user feedback on the platform’s status to launch on a public scale. The government planned to funnel 146.5 million billion into the digital economy to bolster Information Technology projects across various public agencies and ministries.
The Digital Identity Project aligns with various projects under the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, making government services more accessible by replacing passwords with secure QR authentication.
Registration for BruneiID can be completed via the BruneiID mobile application, available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store starting 3 January 2026.
The launch of BruneiID, Brunei’s national digital identity system, marks a milestone in Southeast Asian digital transformation, directly aligning with Identity Week Europe 2026‘s focus on Digita ID in Government. By integrating biometric authentication and blockchain technology to secure government and private sector services, the initiative serves as a vital case study for the Biometrics and Digital Wallets sessions. Identity Week Europe is bringing together identity leaders from over 100 countries to discuss the technology behind government issued digital credentials and public-private partnerships providing the foundation for these essential identity rollouts.
