UK flagship airline British Airways has revealed that facial recognition is now available at a small number of boarding gates. The biometric tech means that passengers at BA's Terminal 5 in London Heathrow will be able to instantly and accurately authenticate identity to remove the need for manual checks.”Our customers have told us that they want the ability to simplify and speed up their journeys through the airport,” said Troy Warfield, BA's director of customer experience, reported the Financial Times. The system will be used initially only for domestic routes, before being extended to international flights.BA already operates self-service luggage check-in desks at both Heathrow and Gatwick as part of moves to improve the passenger experience.Troy Warfield, director of customer experience at BA, said the new self-boarding gates and self-serve bag drop points were ways to invest in what customers “value most”.BA has activated three biometric gates at Heathrow's Terminal 5 this week, and will equip 36 gates with the technology by the end of the summer.
