The Nigerian government has successfully removed nearly 24,000 workers from its payroll after a biometric audit was run.The ghost workers were uncovered in payrolls of various ministries during the ongoing deployment of a biometrics-backed bank verification number (BVN) initiative.Linked to fingerprint and facial data, the BVN is a unique number that identifies each bank's customer for “Know Your Customer” (KYC) purposes. The audit started in December used biometric data and a bank verification number to identify holders of bank accounts into which salaries were being paid, Reuters news agency reports. This process allowed the identification of some workers who were receiving a salary that did not correspond to the names linked to the bank accounts.Google Play enables fingerprint purchases on Android MApps and media can now be purchased on Google Play using fingerprint authentication, if the smartphone has a sensor and is running Android Marshmallow.
