Armenia is set on keeping up with the global issuance of ID documents for their citizens, beginning a multiple stage tender process to select the best provider for ID issuance systems.

Already at the second phase of the project, a selection of service providers have been narrowed down competing to win the tender for ID cards and biometric passports.

The search began broadly with a selection of commercial providers in the first round. If they pass, the companies should submit projects by the end of the year that meet government proposals from September 2024.

The review of applications will begin in 2025 preceding a final selection by March 2026, when the system should be operational. The tender winner will have a year to prepare the IT infrastructure in line with EU standards.
