This year’s Identity Week Europe opened with a pertinent speech from Paolo de Rosa at the European Commission about the implementation and adoption of eIDAS and the impact of this landmark legislation on Europe as a whole.

In practical terms, eIDAS has pathed the way for large scale pilots currently testing prototype wallets building on the specifications detailed in the architecture and reference framework.

The benefits of hearing this presentation simplified the jargon surrounding eIDAS 2.0 and offered insight into the “large potential” of the regulation to enhance legal trust and convenience in society through digital data in (revocable) verifiable credentials.

Company Passport

Later, Mark Hanhart stepped up to speak in our main theatre about the current focus of digital identity for citizens covering C2G and C2B, however not B2B, B2G, or B2Banks and the exchange of digital data to the private sector leveraging the Company Passport.

Furthermore, from the perspective of banks, he commented that European interoperability is in the interests of business convenience as well as to satisfy citizen services, but it requires appropriate Taxonomy & protocols.

Businesses need legal certainty which has led to the creation of the Company Passport.
