Tinder, owned by Match Group, is making a concerted effort to remove scam profiles from its platform and ensure all daters can enjoy authentic connections.
Identity verification has blended into the dating world and social media as part of online safety pledges. Tinder is one of the most popular dating platforms which has been testing a new facial recognition feature to advance on photo verification, mandating that Californian users will have to verify their identity when setting up new accounts.
Face Check, powered by FaceTec technology, asks users to take a quick selfie video of themselves which is biometrically matched to their submitted photos and checked in the system for spoof accounts. After the short onboarding process, Tinder users with a “blue tick” are free to interact in the “fun and respectful environment” which Tinder is known for.
The data is life-long as long as the account is active, but if accounts are shut down, the data will be destroyed. Tinder currently does not have any plans to expand the pilot testing beyond California in the region where the company is headquartered.
