The Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano, along with the Global Interoperability Forum, has recognised how e-invoicing trends are evolving and reshaping digital initiatives for major corporations and public bodies in a new report.

Positioned as a key use case for EU digital wallets, e-invoicing promises to unlock wide-ranging benefits of digitalisation, from sector-specific automation to modernising long-standing business practices.

As organisations shift away from paper-based invoicing, the report examines different e-invoicing models and their impact on the broader ecosystem of legally binding digital documents. It stresses that successful adoption depends on government action to address VAT gaps and adapt cross-border supply chain processes. Interoperability and standardisation, the report concludes, will be critical to ensuring the effectiveness of digital documentation.
