The travel industry itself proclaims it could be a long time, decades even, until we see passports disappear from security procedures, however, the Australian Border Force sees biometrics as a game changer combining with the Australia Travel declaration passenger card.
A trial recently commenced at Sydney Airport scanning the faces of employees, which allows them and everyday passengers to clear the border without a passport. The Australia Travel Declaration is completely digital where travellers will receive a QR code on their phone or email which is used for smoother clearance. Across Sydney international airport, 15 new screening lanes have popped up installing CT scanning technology.
