The SevisWallet App, which is built using the same DPI model as implemented in leading digital infrastructures such as Singpass and DigiLocker, is available to download on Google Play.
Steven Matainaho, Chairman of the ICT Steering Committee, tasked with overseeing the delivery of the Digital Government Plan for Papua New Guinea said the digital platform has a lot in common with established digital ecosystems including providing government-issued credentials in a digital form to access public services.
“Trusted verification is at the source” of interactions across agencies and services, whilst paper-based processes are radically phased out as a digital public infrastructure approach is adopted in Papua Guinea.
SevisWallet is a head start of applying a globally proven DPI approach to Papua New Guinea, which will start with digital ID and progress to integrating driver’s licences, Digital Police Clearance certificates and other digital credentials over time to serve the government’s needs.
Matainaho urged the private sector to reach out regarding their wanted use cases for the wallet such as offering Loyalty Membership Cards, Employee ID Cards, and Professional Membership Cards.
The new SevisPass Credential becomes available to residents under a decentralised identity framework which can soon be used to register for SIM cards online and enroll in basic services. Verifiable credentials in the wallet can be exchanged via SevisDEx, the InterOperability Platform.
