The European POTENTIAL project has officially reached its successful conclusion, yet the drive behind it to develop secure and interoperable digital identity solutions across Europe will be embodied in a new pilot.

The APTITUDE consortium has launched a new Large-Scale Pilot to carry forward the mission initiated by POTENTIAL, aiming to further advance security, interoperability, and user trust across borders in the European Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem.

Building upon previous pilot – NOBID, DC4EU, POTENTIAL, and EWC – APTITUDE represents alignment with the EU’s ambitions of the Digital Decade, comprising 117 public and private partners across 11 EU Member States.

The official start of this landmark collaboration was celebrated on 22-23 October 2025 in Paris.

APTITUDE aims to simplify, secure, and accelerate citizens’ daily interactions by providing a single digital identity usable across multiple applications. The project will implement real-life pilot use cases in areas such as Digital Travel Credentials, Ticketing & Check-in, Mobile Vehicle Registration Certificates, and Payments & Banking.

The APTITUDE European‑large‑scale pilot, designed to deploy interoperable Digital Identity Wallets across 12 countries by 2026, clearly ties into key conference themes at Identity Week Europe including Digital Wallets, Frictionless Customer Journeys, Seamless Travel, Digital ID in Government, Trust and Safety. Identity Week Europe 2026 is welcoming Florent Tournois, Head of the Frane Identité project at ANTS to the agenda. As millions of EU citizens gain streamlined access to services, we’re emphasising how identity systems must combine interaction‑ease with data governance, trust frameworks, and service‑oriented innovation.
