The Portuguese Prime Minister has said that companies must not be “obliged to give the administration what the administration already has” in relation to the Business Wallet, designed to simplify interaction between businesses and the state. The wallet helps to significantly cut down time searching for and checking documents, increases efficiency in internal and external procedures, and boosts digital interoperability, allowing for agile responses to administrative and legal requirements from licensing procedures to bidding in public tenders.
The Business Wallet follows the broad European focus on eIDAS, pressing countries to adopt the EU Digital Identity Wallet.
Portugal is the first country to boost European Competitiveness and set up a Business Wallet, which was unveiled in Porto. A centralised digital channel for company’s official documents, it eliminates the need for multiple portals or hard copy documents. This was a goal of the state reform and Public Administration modernisation strategy, placing Portugal at the forefront of digital innovation.
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro at the launch of the Business Digital Wallet on 26 January said:
“We want companies to be increasingly concentrated in their task of generating wealth, tapping markets, hiring and retaining human resources”.
He made a bold statement that Europe is looking at Portugal and to its economy as a leader in the adoption of the Business Wallet and its benefits for growth.
“Europe and the world look to our knack for technologies, Europe and the world look to our location, Europe and the world look to our safety, Europe and the world look to our strategy in fundamental areas such as energy and water”, noted the Prime Minister, claiming that “today, Portugal is a stable country, with high competitiveness factors that make it ever more appealing”.
“We need ambition, confidence and transformative capability” – factors that can be boosted with the Business Digital Wallet.
Portugal is supportive the initiative as part of the Government’s transformation agenda to place citizens and businesses at the core of State action and remove “red tape” for businesses.
Aligned with State Reform, delivering the Business Wallet ultimately makes Portugal more competitive.
