Belgian mobile eID service Itsme has reached 2 million users as it marks its third year in operation.Itsme was set up three years ago by a consortium of a number of Belgian banks (Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING and KBC) and the telecom operators Proximus, Orange and Telenet. Users can already log in or sign documents at hundreds of digital platforms of governments or private companies. People use the app, for example, when completing the tax form digitally.In a year, the number of accounts has doubled from 1 to 2 million. After the summer, it should be possible to create a fully Itsme account on the basis of an international passport and a European ID card or driving license. itsme was granted accreditation by the Belgian government as an official form of digital identity in January 2018 and on a European level in December 2019 (LOA high eIDAS).
