Identity Week Europe 2026 will feature a standout session on the future of document security led by Olga Arnese-Vessere, Head of Sector at the Centre of Excellence for Combatting Document Fraud, FRONTEX, as part of the event’s Security Document Design track.
Taking place on 9 June from 17:20-17:40, Arnese-Vessere’s presentation, “Document security design – equilibrium of innovations and real-life implementation,” addresses one of the most pressing challenges facing border authorities today being how to counter increasingly sophisticated document forgery while maintaining efficient, practical border checks.
Drawing on FRONTEX’s operational experience, the session will explore the real-world deployment of next-generation systems such as EBCG FADO (European Border and Coast Guard False and Authentic Documents Online) and FIELDS (FRONTEX INTERPOL Electronic Library Document System). Arnese-Vessere will highlight how these platforms support frontline officers with reliable reference data while balancing technological innovation with usability in high-pressure environments.
A central theme of the presentation is the growing importance of harmonised digital image standards and forensic-level document data in an era of advanced physical and synthetic threats. As travel volumes increase and fraud techniques evolve, Arnese-Vessere will argue that effective document security design must align cutting-edge innovation with the operational realities faced daily by border guards across Europe and beyond.
The session builds on broader discussions taking place across Identity Week Europe’s Interoperable Borders and Biometrics at the Borders programmes. Across these tracks, experts from FRONTEX, the UK Home Office, US Border Patrol, Entrust, Caribou, and The World Bank are examining the tension between high-assurance security technologies and the growing demand for seamless, traveller-friendly border experiences.
As one of the final sessions on day one, Arnese-Vessere’s presentation is expected to be a key moment for policymakers, document designers, and identity professionals seeking practical insight into how innovation can be translated into effective frontline capability.
Identity Week Europe 2026 takes place 9–10 June in Amsterdam, bringing together global leaders in identity, security, and trust to shape the future of secure credentials, border management, and fraud prevention.
