The transatlantic pilot project launched with the Digital Travel Credential by KLM Airlines represents hyper “focus on border checks” for security document expert, Mika Hansson with over 13 years experience in the development of passport and ID card chips. In 2023, whilst being interviewed live at Identity Week Europe, he paid special attention to KLM’s pilot, now concluded, to allow passengers travelling from Montreal to Schiphol to carry the DTC and be guided through border checks quickly.
He will be featuring on the “Biometrics & Travel” stage refreshing what seamless travel solutions are available now to optimise customer journeys and connect travel borders and authorities over the sharing of safety information. As ever, Hansson indicates “surveillance” is always a risk to using biometric technology and the need to architect a privacy-minding design is crucial.
