Opening up the convenience of e-gates further, the emphasis is on capturing passport data in advance of travel and securely storing it to make security protocols a breeze. It enables the comparison and matching capabilities accustomed to the use of biometric technology nowadays at most airports. The solution is hailed by its creators for cutting journey times, mostly lengthened by immigration controls, by more than 50% with the adjustment from procedures carried out at the e-gate to mobile processes. With more peace of mind, travellers can enjoy their destination and journey.
Adam Tsao, Founder of Airside said: “Our privacy-first approach to digital identity management allows travellers to accelerate their journey without risking their personal data. This aligns perfectly with Curaçao’s vision of prioritizing travellers, enhancing their experience from the moment they arrive, and extending their vacation time.”
Airside is an Entrust subsidiary that has partnered up with Vision-Box and the Government of Curaçao to implement their global privacy-based digital identity that solves how to enable biometric pre-processing at border crossings. Entrust was an exhibitor at Identity Week Europe 2024. This pioneering initiative puts passengers’ data privacy at the centre of their trip after contactless identification at touchpoints in the airport.
Curaçao has established enhanced digital verification services within its travel sector, which coincides with the country’s record-breaking tourism surge. The Island saw an unprecedented increase in travel through 2023, ending the year with 1.76 million passengers. The government wants to replicate the $1.4 billion economic impact and extend its solution to departures from the island starting in late 2024.
Secured passport data is transmitted to border control officers before travel using the Airside Digital Identity App.
Upon arriving at Curaçao International Airport, “re-processed travellers can enjoy expedited clearance through designated lanes where they simply show their faces to process through contactless eGates, powered by Vision-Box technology”, Airside said. This easier concept of travel eliminates the need for physical documents and checks by border control officers.
Importantly, the Airside Digital Identity App is trusted by the U.S. government, Curaçao government and worldwide airlines for safe travel.
All EU, UK, US, and CAN passengers are eligible to use the Curaçao Express Pass service inside the Airside app with the highest level of protection.
