Digital ID Connect apps – Yoti ID, Post Office EasyID and Lloyds Bank Smart ID – pass government scheme approval for proof of age verification.
The accreditation body called PASS has opened up a new digital ID method for businesses to use with trust, and are part of the UK digital ID network with more than four million downloads in the UK.
The three apps are recognised by the UK government for proof of identity and proof of age, as the UK public sector is trying to reduce the number of available accreditations so the government has more influence over technology providers for Right to Work/Rent schemes. The Digital ID Connect apps are valid for right to work, right to rent and criminal record checks.
The green light is given to companies after they complete a strict application and evaluation process, which Yoti says helps retailers adhere to the Challenge 25 policy in the law and trust their technology providers are credible. In both e-commerce and in physical stores, age verification technology helps protect minors from accessing age-restricted products and services.
When a consumer presents their Digital ID with the PASS hologram, they are only required to show their necessary data to identify themselves to any business, such as their photograph and age proof ID, protecting their data privacy and against the risks of fraud.
Robin Tombs, CEO of Yoti said, “More UK businesses can now accept our Digital IDs to reduce the risk of fake IDs, increase compliance and improve the customer experience”.
He also said that four million people have downloaded a digital ID app, so this must be a “strong sign” that they are embracing “reusable digital IDs and want a more secure, private and convenient way to prove who they are”.
