As the EU Commission confirms a Business Wallet, they have opened a call for contributions to the regulation establishing an EU-wide system for simplified business interactions, digital verification and data sharing.
The consultation is open until 12 June 2025. Building upon the European Digital ID Framework, the second proposal which consulted member states on the development of wallets, the business wallet also aims to reduce administrative burdens and enable cross-border interoperability for authentication between businesses.
The final regulation collating all the industry’s evidence will be adopted in Q4 2025.
Ursula von der Leyen announced the European Business Wallet as a flagship initiative in the European Commission Competitiveness Compass on January 29, 2025.
Mathieu Gitton, Former Director of representative office in Brussel, said the business wallet “aims to federate, under a single cryptographic key, the thousand drawers of national bureaucracies”.
