The Entry/Exit system, which launches in a phased rollout from October 2025, will impose a sophisticated data management system managing the flow of non-EU visitors into the Schengen Area. In conjunction, the implementation of biometric systems and e-gates has already upgraded airport infrastructure ensuring seamless interoperability with the EES when it comes into operation.

New biometric systems have been installed that embody the EU’s “mission” to capture biometrics from UAE visitors. The EES system generally will replace passport stamping at EU borders with transformative digital processes.

The full rollout of automated border checks is expected by April 10, 2026 where collection of biometric data like fingerprints and facial capture is to be standardised across EU borders. The system applies to both visa and visa exempt individuals, which is designed to fully monitor entry/exit, track overstayers and rapidly get a handle on immigration – a very contentious issue for many. Those who have worked to provision the system have taken time to coordinate contracts and ensure the reliability and interoperability of the system with the broader IT infrastructure.
