A biometric passenger processing system for outbound U.S. travel has been activated at Aruba’s U.S. Pre-Clearance facility, to begin the pre-clearance process for U.S. citizens returning home.
The significant upgrade was announced at Aruba’s facility, and this follows the completed installations of EPP at Orlando International Airport and Dublin Airport. In partnership with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and iProov, to meet technology requirements, authorities have commenced processing verified passengers using biometrics to capture a live scan of their profile and match it to their documents held by CBP. A speedy process that completes a forensic identification of the traveller in seconds, EPP reduces wait times.
Enhanced Passenger Processing involves photographing travellers using auto capture technology. CBP welcomed a biometric facial comparison experience at Orlando International Airport in May, where iProov was also selected to be the technology partner in delivering the EPP system. This move has reportedly reduced wait times by 65% engineered by iProov’s proprietry on-the-move biometrics solution which supports the system of capturing passengers’ data in the United States aviation space.
The EPP provides a brief facial biometric scan that facilitates group-friendly processing, accommodating families and children and eliminates the need for a physical passport. EPP requires no application and is automatically available to U.S. citizens departing Aruba, transforming a smoother and more efficient departure experience, as the airport navigate the “construction phases of the Gateway 2030 expansion,” said Jurgen Benschop, Chief Operations Officer at Aruba Airport Authority N.V.
“Together with our partners, we remain committed to innovation and service excellence, and we appreciate our passengers’ patience as we continue building a more modern and efficient airport for the future”.
