Compatible with domestic travel through TSA checkpoints, Apple has announced that users will be able to set up a digital passport feature based on their digital ID in the Apple Wallet.

Physical documents will still take precedence for international travel through customs and border checkpoints, whilst the digital passport feature will be allowed for domestic travel.

The deadline has now passed for complying with a form of REAL ID, for example ID cards, driver licences.

The Transportation Security Administration is excitedly partnering with Apple on this great initiative.

The new passport feature is “not a replacement for your physical passport,” Apple said, but it can be used in apps that need to verify age and identity and at supported TSA checkpoints. “Digital passports could help procrastinators who have yet to get their Real ID.”
