Travel booking company, Amadeus, has announced its acquisition of Portugal-based company Vision-Box in a 320 million euro takeover of facial recognition assets. Vision-Box is a specialist biometric supplier in the travel industry.

The handover will require regulatory approval which will be obtained during the first half of this year. Amadeus’ main solution is a global distribution system for travel companies but will be driving more business with fellow travel parties as it seeks ‘end-to-end’ identity services from travel booking to boarding.

The companies systems will synergise with many airports, border agencies and airlines.

Decius Valmorbida, President of Amadeus travel, commented: “Biometrics is a strategic and fast-growing industry and Vision-Box’s capabilities will allow us to accelerate our growth in this area”.
