The rise of AI agents is set to transform the connectivity landscape, shifting network demands beyond human-to-human communication toward the infrastructure required to support autonomous vehicles, robotics, and machine-driven interactions. This evolution will significantly increase performance, security, and reliability requirements across telecom networks.

At MWC 2026 in Barcelona, leading telecommunications operators — including Deutsche Telekom — will explore new service models focused on monetising AI-driven innovation while addressing the challenges of an increasingly autonomous and data-intensive technological era. Enabling this shift will require the introduction of critical capabilities such as robust digital identity frameworks and secure agent registration systems.

Deutsche Telekom will also unveil a new mobile security platform at the event, transforming smartphones into a “universal key” for digital identities using Bluetooth and NFC technologies.

This solution enables devices to replace physical keys, smart cards, and even traditional ID documents, while maintaining full user data sovereignty. It supports a broad range of use cases, including secure access control and verified age and identity authentication.

The company plans to roll out the solution to business customers across Europe later in 2026.
