US bank Wells Fargo announced today that more than 40 percent – or over 5,000 of its ATMs – will now allow customers to use biometrics and NFC for transactions.This means that the tellers will work with contactless technology that powers mobile wallet systems like Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay, as well as Wells Fargo's own Wallet for Android appNow, customers can initiate an NFC-based ATM transaction instead by holding their phone or a wearable device (like an Apple Watch) near the ATM terminal.The NFC-ready ATMs will have a “contactless symbol” decal on the front, so you'll know if the feature is supported. Then, customers will enter their PIN code as usual and complete their transaction.”This spring's launch of one-time access code technology at all Wells Fargo ATMs has resulted in nearly three million card-free ATM access code transactions. Card-free ATM use will take another leap as we introduce NFC functionality,” said Jonathan Velline, head of Strategy and Administration for Community Bank. “The NFC functionality is a second form of card-free access and is an extension of our promise to reach our customers wherever they are and provide value using the mobile option with which they are so comfortable.”
