TECH5 Implements its Digital Identification Technologies in Colombia

Indumil, the sole arms manufacturer for the Colombian government, has announced new and innovative measures to authenticate the identity of an individual securely and accurately, combining technologies of TECH5 and Accesos Holográficos (AH). These new measures are implemented to increase confidence in the legal authorization of registered firearm possession in the country.

Indumil is adopting the technology of both TECH5, an innovator in the field of biometrics and digital identity management, and Accesos Holográficos – AH, a leader in marketing solutions in high security printing, in order to modernize permits for gun carry and possession in Colombia. The new technologies will allow the implementation of the T5-Cryptograph, a secure digital container, which will hold both biometric and demographic data of an individual gun owner. The T5-Cryptograph will be integral part of the gun permit, and with the aid of a smartphone the identity of an individual gun owner can be biometrically confirmed in seconds. Furthermore, the new document will allow the authorities to biometrically verify the identity of the firearm carrier even off-line, without the need for an Internet connection.

“We are convinced that the implementation and function of digital identification enhanced by biometrics on firearm permits will only serve to increase the security in the country as well as provide law enforcement agents with a tool to verify the identity of gun owners in a fast and accurate manner. These patented technologies, which will be integrated with the new generation firearm permits, will make it difficult if not impossible to falsify and/or adulterate firearm permits.”- comments Juan Carlos Sánchez Sánchez, South American Regional Director for Accesos Holográficos.

Over the next three years, Indumil plans to issue more than 700,000 carry and possession permits with integrated T5-Cryptograph for both firearms and non-lethal weapons. Owners of more than one firearm will receive a separate permit for each one. “To be clear, the implementation of TECH5 digital identification technologies will allow law enforcement to be more efficient in their work in the field given that they will now have a tool at their disposal that will legally support their operations. In addition, the new technology will also facilitate control in remote locations in the country as there is no need for an internet connection to verify the identity of permit holders.” – comments Coronel Hoover Ríos, Director of Arms and Explosives Trade Control of the General Command of the Armed Forces.

NIDP Ethiopia implements TECH5 solution

NIDP Ethiopia implements TECH5 solution

TECH5, an innovator in the field of biometrics and digital identity management, has become an international partner and technology supplier for the National ID Program of the Ethiopian Government Entity (NIDP Ethiopia). NIDP Ethiopia has implemented a limited pilot program with TECH5 biometric and digital ID technologies for enrollment and authentication of residents as well as digital ID issuance.

This pilot program has at its core an IDMS (Identity Management System named Fayida) based on MOSIP. The National ID Program of Ethiopia has been working on customizing the MOSIP open- source platform for more than a year and has now reached the position of launching a pilot. Individuals participating in the pilot program can be enrolled by providing their biometric and demographic data. Face, fingerprint, and iris images are captured, checked for quality using the TECH5 SDK, and then de-duplicated through a 1:N check against data in the National ID system using the TECH5 identification system (T5-ABIS BE) that is integrated into the MOSIP platform.

TECH5 has also deployed the T5-IDencode platform integrated with MOSIP for Digital ID generation. Once enrolled, an individual receives a digital ID which can be presented in an electronic or printed format and verified completely offline using an authorized verifier application on a smartphone. All data collected, stored in the NID database, and/or published in the ID credential is limited to the minimum data required to identify an individual. All data remains secure under NIDP and is owned by the individual who has sole and total control over how the data is managed and used.

The Ethiopian Identity program is working in compliance with international principles of data privacy, minimal data retention, inclusion and consent. Current working principles are made public here http://www.id.gov.et/principles.

“This entire program is aimed at creating and implementing a Foundational Digital ID system for Ethiopia at the national level, the culmination of which results in the enrollment of millions of consenting individuals as part of national priority use-cases in the banking, insurance, education, residential services and other sectors. “We are glad to partner with the TECH5 team, who have demonstrated innovative solutions in the biometrics industry.” – comments Yodahe Zemichael, Executive Director of the NID Program. “We are fully supporting the Ethiopian National ID Program with our expertise and latest technologies because we share the same principles of inclusion that provide individuals with a universal digital identity that is easily accessible and controlled solely by them.” – says Machiel van der Harst, Co-founder and CEO of TECH5.

TECH5 face recognition technology (T5-Face) to be used in Chile

TECH5, an innovator in the field of biometrics and digital identity management, and Solem, an international technology company that integrates process and business intelligence to its services to enhance high productivity, efficiency, and continuous transformation of its customers, announced their partnership and launched a biometric-based solution that links a person to their COVID-19 test results biometrically. The solution will help trace the virus, avoid impersonation, formalize consent, and facilitate appropriate quarantining of an infected person.

The solution has been tested on the first customer in Chile and proven its efficacy for biometric traceability. It will now be implemented for the active search of COVID-19 cases. Every worker will go through a weekly digital onboarding process to collect a facial image, test result and number associated with an antigen rapid test, as well as other data. The rapid test number and test result will be linked to a person’s biometrics, and using the biometric matching technology of TECH5, T5-Face, an employer will be able to verify a worker’s identity upon arrival to the worksite.

“The solution is fully inclusive even for those workers who do not have a smartphone, as onboarding can be done in the clinic prior to testing.” – comments Víctor Parra, Solem Product manager. “The same solution can be used in cases when symptoms are suspected to make sure that the person has taken a rapid test, avoiding in this way, the entry of a person with positive virus detection into a worksite.”- says Mr. Parra.

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with Solem. For TECH5 it is a great opportunity to introduce its technologies and solutions to a wider range of customers, as well as prove its effectiveness in various use cases across Latin America.”- comments Jeremy James, TECH5 Vice President Sales for Caribbean & Latin America.

TECH5 Integrates its Digital ID Solution with MOSIP

TECH5 Integrates its Digital ID Solution with MOSIP

TECH5, a technology innovator in the field of biometrics, has integrated the T5-IDencode issuance platform – a part of its T5-Digital ID offering – with the MOSIP foundational identity Platform. This new functionality covers biometric enrolment of a person as well as the issuance of secure and private digital IDs with data sourced from a National ID database.

TECH5 has integrated the T5-Digital ID offering with the MOSIP platform, and any country adopting MOSIP can leverage the product with minimal integration efforts. Currently, the new solution is being implemented as a PoC for the first time in Ethiopia.

Implementing a digital-first ID alongside a physical credential using the MOSIP platform will allow governments to reduce the cost and speed of ID issuance as well as streamline and improve the logistics and management of the ID lifecycle. TECH5’s digital ID can be purely electronic or printed and retain the same ID verification functionality. Furthermore, given that there will be neither a need for specialized or purpose-built devices nor internet connectivity because reading and verification of the digital ID can be performed in a completely offline manner, there will also be a consequent reduction in hardware.

MOSIP is a global open-source platform that is designed to help organizations and governments implement a foundational ID system that provides users with unique IDs. With the integration of the T5-IDencode platform with MOSIP, these unique IDs can not only be issued in a secure digital format, but can also be securely authenticated, thus facilitating the effective delivery of services such as healthcare, education, and social security, without compromising a citizen’s data.

The MOSIP platform integrated with T5-Digital ID also allows for enrolment and deduplication prior to issuing a digital ID. As Rahul Parthe, Co-founder, Chairman and CTO of TECH5 explains, “The T5-ABIS BE component that was integrated with MOSIP in 2019 is used for deduplication services during the enrolment process to verify that a user does not already exist in the database under a different name and to ensure that the issued digital ID is unique.”

The credential issuance functionality of T5-Digital ID will significantly increase privacy and security during verification. This is because the digital ID is issued in the form of a secure digital container known as the T5-Cryptograph, which enables biometric authentication using TECH5’s NIST top-ranked face and/or fingerprint recognition algorithms. Furthermore, the data in the T5-Cryptograph is readable only by a verified authority, and only after the identity holder authorizes the reading and verification of its contents.

The total solution enables each user to have full control over their private and personally identifiable information. The credential issued by the Government can be stored on the user’s phone or kept in printed format and used for biometric verification against the holder. This consent-based mechanism afforded by the new solution empowers each user with the ability to seamlessly self-authenticate anywhere in the country and access a wide range of Government and Enterprise services.

“We develop all of our technologies and solutions for identity management around the principles of ID4D and are very passionate about the MOSIP project. The TECH5 – MOSIP technical integration has enabled the creation of a unique solution that can be implemented for digital ID issuance around the world” – comments Mr. Parthe.

“MOSIP believes in innovation. Paperless secure credentialing and enablement of offline identity verification is a strong use-case to demonstrate, especially from the point of view of inclusion and privacy. We appreciate TECH5’s initiatives in embracing breakthrough open-source technology like MOSIP”, says Krishnan Rajagopalan, Head of Country Implementations, MOSIP.
