Suprema appoints new Americas president

Suprema, a global leader in access control, biometrics and time and attendance management solutions, has appointed Bob McKee as new President of Suprema America.

McKee brings over 45 years of experience in the electronic physical security sector to this new role and will be responsible for leading Suprema’s North America business and its operations in the US. Prior to joining Suprema, McKee has held key executive positions with major and global security companies including Cardkey Systems, Paxton Access, Hanwha Techwin (formerly Samsung Techwin), Pelco and Princeton Identity. He also served multiple terms on the board of directors for SIA (Security Industry Association).

Suprema is confident that McKee’s extensive experience will help position Suprema as a major player in access control in North America with its strong offerings. Suprema America has been steadily growing since its establishment in 2019 with BioStar 2 access control platform, facial recognition, fingerprint readers, RFID readers and mobile solutions.

“We are absolutely delighted to have Mr. McKee join our team during this important period”, said Suprema Inc. CEO Hanchul Kim. “His vast knowledge and experience are truly invaluable, and we are confident that he will help drive Suprema into a leading position in the access control industry.”

“I’m excited to spearhead Suprema on its accent to become a visible market leader. This will require a very focused strategy and efforts to meet and exceed expectations and requirements of the integrators we serve. The landscape of our industry has changed, and Suprema’s services will adapt quickly but more importantly our product portfolio is well suited to meet this new environment,” said Bob McKee.

Suprema, a global leader in access control and biometrics, today announced the successful integration of its biometric access control products with Genetec™ Security Center, a unified security platform that connects security systems, sensors, and data in a single intuitive interface.

Through this integration, Genetec™ Synergis™ (the access control system of Security Center) can be paired with Suprema access control devices to allow users to verify access credentials with fingerprints and facial recognition along with existing RFID cards and PIN numbers. Biometric data such as fingerprint and facial recognition records can be quickly registered through either the Security Center software or Suprema’s BioStar 2 software, with all data being synchronized in real time and transmitted to a server. The integration is suitable for enterprise level use, allowing up to 1,000 devices to be connected at once.

Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim said, “Through this partnership, customers of both companies can more easily build and operate biometric-based security management systems. We will strengthen our partnership to elevate our status as a global security leader.”

“The integration of Security Center Synergis with Suprema’s biometric access control solutions simplifies the architecture thereby enhancing the end user experience,” said Francois Brouillet, Product Line Manager, Access Control, Genetec, Inc. “This brings increased value to our joint customers and partners and further strengthens our long-standing relationship with Suprema.”

Suprema achieves ‘top market share in biometric reader market’, says report

According to the latest report by Omdia, a global market research firm, Suprema ranks first in global market share, excluding China in the field of biometric readers. Suprema is a provider of access control solutions, including biometric terminals.

Omdia said in their Access Control Database 2021 Analysis that Suprema recorded a global market share of about 13% in the field of access control devices using biometric technology such as fingerprint and facial recognition, winning against many global security companies in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Based on this strong brand power in the EMEA region, Suprema was pushed into first place for biometric reader global market share in 2020, not counting China, Omdia said in their market report.

The report also noted that more than 15 million mobile credentials were downloaded in 2020 and stressed that contactless access control measures have grown rapidly since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suprema was also selected as the number one brand in both the access control software sector and the mobile access card solution sector in a March 2021 survey by the international security publication A&S Magazine. Mobile access card solutions in particular, which were developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, have been multiplying at home and abroad due to the spread of decentralized identification (DID) and mobile identification cards, showing various possibilities for innovating new authentication methods.

“Suprema has grown into an integrated security platform provider that encompasses both hardware and software over the past 20 years since its foundation in 2000, and has solidified its leadership in the global market with seven overseas branches and 140 overseas partners,” Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim said. “We will continue to evolve as a market leader in integrated security and access control through innovation in the field of AI, deep learning, and big data.”.

Suprema launches X-Station 2 fingerprint model

Suprema, a global leader in biometric security and access control, announced the launch of an upgraded version of its X-Station 2 access control terminal, which now supports fingerprint authentication.

In May 2021, Suprema launched four models of X-Station 2, a next-generation “versatile intelligent terminal” that supports a variety of authentication methods from mobile access cards to RFID cards, QR codes and barcodes. The newest X-Station 2 model comes equipped with a fingerprint recognition module that provides more options for customers.

The main features of X-Station 2 include:

  • Support for various authentication methods such as mobile access, QR codes, fingerprints, and RFID cards
  • Fraud prevention via authentication photos using a built-in camera
  • A convenient 4-inch touch screen
  • Up to 500,000 users can be stored and processed

Suprema CEO Hanchul Kim said, “With COVID-19 increasing the demand for smartphone-based, non-face-to-face solutions, we received good reviews following the original launch of our X-Station 2 mobile access authentication terminal. The newly launched X-Station 2 fingerprint model diversifies contactless authentication options to customers who use existing biometric information. They can now enjoy the same level of security performance while offering users the convenience and peace of mind that mobile access brings.”
