Island state Singapore plans to pilot a new voting registration system that linked pollers' identity to their smart identity cards. The Elections Department (ELD) said this week in response to media queries it will pilot a system that will scan the barcode on a voter's national registration identity card (NRIC).The new system will shorten the waiting time for voters at polling stations and reduce the number of election officials needed for registration at a polling station, said the ELD, reports the Straits Times. The ELD said it "plans to pilot e-registration at a future election to test out the procedure and gather feedback."The body has yet to call for a tender for its pilot project.
