The Philippines Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has announced that it will acquire more fingerprint scanners to accommodate last-minute registrants before an upcoming biometric registration deadline.Citizens need to register their biometrics by 31 October before an election scheduled by May 2016, and officials warn that the estimated 3.1 million who haven't will lost their vote.Aareas with poor biometrics registration include Region IV, National Capital Region and Central Luzon. “We have to develop strategies which will focus on those areas with no or little biometrics registration,” Comelec Chair Andres Bautista said last week. However, Comelec has said it will temporarily suspend voter registration from 13-16 October to give way to the filing of certificates of candidacy.
