The Nigerian police have entered into partnership with the United Kingdom-based Association of Criminal Records Office, ACRO, to study the establishment of a fingerprint database and digital criminal register.The partnership will involve a review of the police's Information Technology needs with a view towards developing a complete security architecture,.”When fully operational, this synergy will, among other things, review Nigeria police criminal justice system, develop criminal records register, provide police with electronic criminal records gadgets, and modernize police information technology needs,” said police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu.At the event, presentations highlighting the benefits of electronic fingerprint databases were given by David Mckinney and Graeme Wallace from the ACRO.”The benefits of forensic-led investigations cannot be overemphasized, and this underpins the strategic importance of partnering with ACRO,” added Ojukwu said.
