Norway's NEXT Biometrics as received an initial order for 100,000 sensors from a new customer within the “SmartHome” segment, saying the order underlines how new segments are opening up for the fingerprint sensor firm.The NEXT customer target sales in excess of 1 million units over the first 12-18 months of operations.NEXT CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe commented: “After 12 months of design and testing iterations our customer, a leading design and manufacturing house, has moved forward with their first volume order. The application is SmartHome related and will be distributed by a segment leading brand name player. Their name will be made public when they launch their products later this year.”In January, the firm said the number of orders it has received for fingerprint from new potential markets underlines the broadening interest in the sector.Etholm-Idsoe said at the time ” The 'Apple Effect' is starting to make a significant impact in multiple new market segments. The general acceptance of fingerprinting is increasing fast.
