Planet Biometrics caught up with William Maheu, Qualcomm's senior director of business development, at connect:ID 2015.A few weeks earlier, Qualcomm Technologies launched a bold assault on the biometric authentication market with an ultrasound fingerprint sensor that can be easily integrated into touchscreens and which potentially offers smoother authentication than rivals.Known as Snapdragon Sense ID 3D Fingerprint Technology, QT said the ultrasound reader is the mobile industry's “first 3D fingerprint authentication technology”, adding that it is a step above capacitive fingerprint readers like the TouchID solution deployed in Apple's iPhones.
